Hazing [24 Mar 2006|02:16pm]
answer_seekers
Hello, we are two students at Rochester Institute of Technology currently engaged in an independent study project addressing the issue of hazing. The goal of this project is two-pronged - we wish to discover the prevalence of hazing in the state as well as get your opinion on what should be done about it, if anything.

Under the lj-cut is our survey, which asks a variety of questions about your personal experiences with hazing, and we would greatly appreciate it if you could take a minute or two from your time to fill it out really quickly. We even have questions at the beginning for those who have never experienced hazing but wish to share their opinion on the subject. Additionally, each question gives you the option to answer in more detail beyond the choices we have already provided. We encourage you to take advantage of this if you have more include in your answer.

Your responses to this survey are anonymous, so please do not put your name (or any information that would identify you) anywhere on this survey. You may quit the survey at any time and for any reason, or you may decline to answer any of the questions, but your responses to every question are important and we ask that you answer as many of the questions as you possibly can. You may post your answers however you like - under your user name, anonymously, or you may e-mail them to us at hazing.survey@gmail.com. All posts will be screened, so no one except you, us, and the community administrator will be able to see your responses.

Please inform us of any questions, concerns, or feedback you might have. Thank you in advance for your time.

I have a little now! Only problem is I need to get him a gift but I have no idea what to do. If my little was a girl, a bag or picture frame or something would be great. But a guy? I don't know what to do ... Any suggestions?

masters in tango? [30 Jan 2006|04:01pm]

uberkrunk_5
Does anyone know of existing graduate work that's been done on Argentine Tango? I would really like to work it into my masters thesis, and am just beginning to look for available literature. If anyone has any leads, I would sure appreciate hearing from you--especially if you know of anyone else who's done graduate studies in tango.

Thank you very much.

A Call to Arms... [02 Sep 2005|01:38pm]

lizzymommy
I just sent this email out to my fellow Mu Phites, and then thought perhaps I ought to post it in my livejournal and then crosspost liberally to whatever communities I'm in ... Here it is...

"I apologize if this is not the best way to reach all of you, but I
have no contact information, no email list, no officer list, and no
phone tree type thing...so here goes.

I'm reading about New Orleans and other affected areas...I'm reading
about those college students who were trapped in their gym after their
dorms were evacuated. How state schools in (I believe it was)
Tennessee are being opened up to these students tuition free for this
academic year, etc...etc... about fundraising ideas, helpful plans,
hearing how my parents are hosting a family in their RV starting this
weekend.

My thoughts to you all are multiple. Can we designate this year's
service projects as having something to do with the Hurricane? Can we
tie this in with Rush events and Pledge season? Can we start planning
our own tribute Mardi Gras themed fundraiser? Begin with selling
Mardi Gras beads a la those yellow rubber Livestrong bracelets, and
culminate in a celebration/concert/etc... Can we join forces with
other greek organizations on this one? Can we talk to administration
in our school to see if we can sponsor a student or two to continue
their education? Can we have a bookdrive for students, libraries,
music libraries, etc....

I am heartsick at what I cannot do. I am a ridiculously poor single
mother graduate student. I have nothing to offer financially. At
all. Sad, I know. I could not possibly support another person, let
alone a family. I do not have the physical resources to endure
helping bail out (literally) the region.

BUT I can draw on my own non-financial resources such as the
organizations I am a part of, the terrific ideas I see out there, what
little time I have, etc.

Help me. I can't do it on my own. Neither can the refugees...Great
Gods above...we have refugees in the United States...

Okay. Anyway. Thoughts on this?

In hope for a glimmer of a brighter tomorrow for someone,

~liz"

help! [30 Jul 2005|06:15pm]

Hi everyone!
I am Vice President of the Lambda Chapter at Ithaca College. We really need to attract a lot of members this year but it's challenging because we have such a strict Greek Life Policy (only 4 frats all together- Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, Mu Phi Epsilon, and Kappa Gamma Psi) so it isn't exactly a big draw on campus. Also, freshman can't pledge until the spring. Also, it is a requirement to live in house for at least one year. House is a dorm, so it isn't too appealing to upperclassmen. We need suggestions for rushes that can attract upperclassmen and in general. What have you all done??

Thanks!

Hello all!

I was a member of this community as musicchick307 and now I am back with a new account!

I am a junior at Ithaca College, majoring in French Horn Performance and Music Education and I am the Vice President of the Lambda Chapter. We did some really, really great things for our chapter this year and it was great. We are having a regional meeting with Eastman and Geneseo in November this semester. fun stuff!

Hi! I'm Liz, and I'm an alumnus of the Eastman chapter...(initiated in 95, oy!). I'm now pursuing my Masters in Vocal Performance (I was horn performance at ESM) at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, *waves to Beth* and I'm thrilled to have found this community through the most random of means...

I look forward to lively discussions!

Hi all! I was just initiated into the Mu Phi chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory last night, found this community and decided to join! I must say I'm jealous of all of you with the greek letter shirts, we don't have anything like that here. Hmm, maybe I'll have to get it started... We do a lot to help with our Bach Fest (the oldest and longest-running collegiate bach fest in the US!) and other things around campus, and then lots of other things that I don't know about because I just joined! Nice to meet you all, I'll see you around the community!

[ mood | happy ]

Hello all! I just joined this community. I'm a member of mu phi at Sacramento State University. Our chapter is having issues right now. The enrollment is low and keeps closing up. However we have a new advisor and president who are quite excited to get our chapter up and running again. In fact we just initiated 14 new members earlier this semester. Very exciting. So, any ideas on how to keep a chapter going would be greatly appreciated.

Help! [10 Dec 2004|07:24pm]

emalinetn
Hey guys. I have a question to ask, and this is a biggy. I just got notice today from my chapter secretary saying that IEO says we owe them $350 for the 14 new members we initiated into the Delta Tau Chapter last February. It was my understanding as a pledge and as the two-time vice president of the Delta Tau chapter that when you paid the international dues at initiation, they covered you for a full year until the next November (i.e. initated March 02, paid internation dues again in November 03). Has this happened to any of you? I asked our DD back in September when I got the dues forms if I should be worried that it showed that even new members had to pay dues, but she said it was probably just an accounting error made when the IEO moved to their new offices. I can't ask these 14 new members to pay international dues again, and they shouldn't have to. Please, I could use any advice I can get. I've discussed this issue with the previous chapter president and I've notified my DD. My chapter isn't in the position to cover the dues, and I don't think we should have to do that. Help!

music greek unity [10 Dec 2004|02:35pm]

strungoutmusc03
[ mood | fed up ]

What is the best way to retore and mend unity problems between music greek organizations in one department? Is seems like everytime we take one step forward, something happens and we take two steps backward. :-( I suggested a Christmas musicale, and no one responded. I had other ideas, and I was ignored. I'm getting so tired of even trying.
